What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment

Preparing ahead helps us serve you faster and more thoroughly. Bring all documents that apply to your tax situation—even if you’re unsure whether we’ll need them.
 

Identification & Basic Information

  • Valid driver’s license or state-issued photo ID
  • Social Security cards or ITIN information for everyone listed on the return
  • IP PINs, if issued by the IRS
  • Copy of last year’s federal and state tax returns, if available
  • Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit or electronic payment

The IRS also recommends bringing photo identification, Social Security/ITIN information, prior-year returns when available, and banking information. 

Income Documents

Bring all applicable income statements, including:

  • Forms W-2
  • Forms 1099
  • Social Security statements
  • Unemployment statements
  • Pension or retirement income
  • Interest and dividend statements
  • Stock or investment documents
  • Any other documents showing income or taxes withheld

Parents & Dependents

If you are claiming dependents or certain tax benefits, bring any documents that may help establish your eligibility, such as:

  • Childcare provider name, address, and tax identification number
  • School, medical, childcare, or other residency records when applicable
  • Birth certificates or other relationship documents when needed
  • Records related to custody or residency, if applicable
  • Documents supporting Head of Household filing status when needed

Self-Employed Clients

Please bring:

  • EIN documentation, if applicable
  • All records of business income
  • Forms 1099 received
  • Business expense records
  • Mileage records, if applicable
  • Equipment or asset purchases
  • Home-office information, if applicable
  • Estimated tax payment records

Other Tax Documents

Bring any that apply to you, including:

  • Mortgage interest statements
  • Real estate tax records
  • Tuition and education documents
  • Charitable contribution records
  • Form 1095-A for Marketplace health insurance
  • IRS or state tax notices
  • Any other tax document you are unsure about

For Marketplace coverage, Form 1095-A is specifically listed by the IRS as a document taxpayers should have for filing.
